1. Harness Healthy Skin
Healthy skinis here to stay - and we're here for it.
We know society’s standards of beauty continue to change, and we’re here for the evolving perception of beauty. We’re welcoming inclusive, raw, representative of real-life beauty – and for us, it’s here to stay.
In 2023, we’re expecting to see the rise of healthy skin – where beauty starts and ends.
Having healthy skin is unique for all of us. And it certainly doesn’t mean flawless, photoshopped, unattainable skin. In-fact, we’re celebrating all skin types – and your healthy skin goals. We all have different needs as our skin changes during our life.
How to harness healthy skin?
Tip 1: Start with protecting your skin barrier integrity.
Your skin’s made up of layers of cells with unique functions – all protecting our insides from the outside world. Keep your skin health and inflammation in check with a nutritious diet and look out for key ingredients in your skincare.
We’re all about: lipids, antioxidants like vitamin C, E, CoQ10. In fact, having a healthy skin barrier also helps protect from the sun, protect from oxidative stress (and aging). You of course, can’t go past regular protection from a high quality SPF to keep your skin health optimal.
And of course, skin health goes beyond your diet and skincare ritual. What makeup are you choosing? Is 2023 your time to make a fresh start and clean up your go-to makeup brands?
Clean up your ritual with these beauty basics:
Healthy skincare trend to try in 2023: Natural slugging for supple skin
Before you ask, no slugs are involved in this skincare trend that took off in 2022 and isn’t going anywhere this year. If plump, hydrated, dewy skin is on the top of your skincare goals, then slugging is for you.
How to do slugging?
Skin slugging is when an occlusive oil is applied to your skin after your regular skincare ritual. It’s an excellent choice for those with dry skin and can even improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by preventing water loss. Yep, you heard that right.
Occlusive oils used for slugging are generally petroleum based. We don’t stock petroleum-based products thanks to our strict ingredient standards. Instead, for your clean beauty and sustainable slugging, opt for natural oils instead – we love argan oil or jojoba oil, or for a bestselling classic, Weleda Skin Food is a great ‘slug’ option for deeply nourishing the skin.

2. Prioritise protein
Did you know that most of us are consuming far less protein than we should be? And that as we age, our protein requirements increase to help retain quality muscle? If having great energy every day, healthy blood sugar levels and healthy mood are your wellbeing goals for 2023 then upping your daily protein is a must.
Research suggests we should be consuming 1.6 grams of protein per kilo weight. For a 60kg woman that’s 96grams of protein and for an 80kg man that’s 128grams. Many of us are falling significantly short.
What are the benefits of protein?
Protein is incredibly important at every age and stage of life. Protein helps restore and repair, and support growth, and healthy development – essential for kids, adults, pregnant people – all of us. Protein is the building block for many structures in our body, our hair, nails, collagen, skin. And it keeps our blood sugar levels more stable – so we can be fuller for longer, and positively influence our mood and sleep.
To set your day up for success, start your first meal with a good source of protein – aiming for 20-30 grams if you can. You’ll notice improvements in your mood, energy, and whole-body health.
Why choose protein powder?
For a convenient option on-the-go, whey or plant-based protein powders make getting adequate protein easy.

3. Wellness starts with immune health
If we’ve learnt anything about our immune health in the last few years, it’s that supporting your immunity starts well before you’re unwell, and impacts your whole health. Your immune wellbeing impacts your gut health, mood, skin, sleep, even your hair and nail health.
In 2023 you should expect to learn more holistic ways to benefit your immune system – including the best foods for your immune health.
The trending ingredients of 2022 will continue to rise this year. Keep on your radar:
- Probiotics in fermented foods
- Foods rich in key immune health nutrients like zinc, vitamin A, iron, and selenium
- Functional mushrooms, and Wellness drinks rich in phytonutrients.
And as we now know, 70-80% of our immune system lives in our gut.
In 2023 we’re changing the way we think about our immunity, taking a preventative approach and making sure our body gets all the nutrition, sleep, connection and healthy movement to thrive. Nothing can really beat a healthy diet, focused on fresh veges and phytonutrients, but these aren’t always accessible due to time, seasonality and cost, so functional foods offer supplementary support.

4. Sleep care is the new self-care
Who doesn’t want to get more quality zzz’s every night? Your wellness starts with sleep, and if you’re not getting restorative and deep sleep, then 2023 is your year.
A good night’s sleep regenerates your body. Deep sleep helps us during times of stress – it keeps hormones in good balance, supports a good mood, a healthy metabolism… the benefits are endless.
Of course, it isn’t always that easy – an anxious chattering mind, a new baby, perimenopausal changes to hormones, the temperature, naughty cats, mosquitos, alcohol, or a full tummy...need we go on? As often as we can, without adding more stress or pressure, do what you can to get a peaceful deep sleep.
Your restful routine starts here
- Keep the lights low
- Set non-screen time boundaries
- Enjoy a cup of sleep tea
- Diffuse relaxing essential oils
- Enjoy a bath with Epsom salts some nights
- Try an eye mask or ear plugs
- If appropriate, introduce some calming herbs to your evening

5. Shopping by your ethical values

Whether you care about supporting local, regenerating nature, or organic ingredients only – your small, daily choices lead to positive change.
When it comes to skincare, sustainability is at the core. From sustainable ingredients, like Vinanza Grape (by-products of the food industry that are full of powerful actives) to reducing waste (is that outside box really needed?) the skincare industry is changing for the better – and we’re here for it.
And your daily choices matter, starting with the brands you back. In 2023, we’re proud to celebrate Mindful Brands who are leading the way in sustainability – giving back to people and nature, and we're excited for more brands to join us.
