Candida albicans (and other forms of candida) is a yeast or fungus that is found in the bowel and in small numbers in the genital area. At times it can grow in excess, leading to redness, itching and discomfort. It can also affect the mouth and some skin surfaces, such as under the breasts or other skin folds. There are many things one can do to support the treatment of candida overgrowth such as eliminating foods and drinks that feed the yeast and eating foods that restore healthy bacteria within the digestive tract.

Supplementary support in capsules or herbal teas may include the wonderful NZ Native herb Horopito, or Black Walnut, Oregano, Thyme and Pau D’arco. Alternatively, there are many different probiotic products that can support the healthy function of the digestive tract and urogenital system such as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus reuteri.

Women may occasionally need support with the healthy function of their bladder. Aside from drinking plenty of water, urinating immediately after sexual intercourse, wearing cotton underwear and regular daily showering, there are some additional treatments that can help.

Cranberry is a popular choice as it is well known in supporting healthy bladder function. Other herbs that act as an internal antiseptic such as Bearberry, Goldenseal and Buchu may also help to support urinary health. Vitamin C is also a popular choice as antioxidants can support the natural healing function of the immune system. D-Mannose is another popular choice, which can also be used to support healthy bacteria within the urinary tract.

Most products available have a range of different ingredients within them, providing a formulation that has a variety of actions to ensure the best support for genital and bladder health.
